What is a die?
A die is a specialised tool crafted to shape flexible magnetic tape into various forms, including flat profiles, shower door enclosures and complex extruded shapes up to 60mm wide. Our extrusion factory houses a diverse collection of over 500 dies, and we offer the ability to create low-cost custom dies, bespoke to your application. These are available on request (further details on this to follow).
How does it work?
Depending on the requested profile, the type of magnetisation and magnetic strength required, ferrous based compound are heated and extruded through the die, where it melts and takes on the desired shape. Exiting the die, the material is conveyed through water for cooling and solidification. Subsequently, it passes through a magnetiser, and is then coiled and packaged as a roll. Alternatively, this can then be cut and supplied in pre-cut lengths. In the case of flat profiles, lamination with various adhesives is also available.
Is there a cost for a new die?
Yes, there is. Crafting a new die involves manufacturing it to the requested shape. We have the ability to create low-cost custom dies, bespoke to your application. These are available on request. You can discuss the details and costs with our dedicated sales team.
What are the benefits of a custom die?
When you opt for a custom die, it becomes your property while being securely stored at our factory in Sheffield, UK. The extruded profile produced from this die is exclusively tailored to your needs, ensuring it meets your application requirements precisely. For UK-based companies, this translates to shorter lead times. However, for our international clients, we offer the convenience of stocking your profile in our German warehouse, further improving lead times.
