Did You Know Our Clear Printable Window Films Can Be Reverse Printed?

If a window graphic needs to be applied to the inside of the glass but viewed correctly from outside, reverse printing is one way to achieve it.

Our clear supacling® printable window films include reverse-printable options across both the DURA and DOT ranges, giving printers and sign-makers another way to approach retail window graphics, promotional displays and branded glazing.

What does reverse printing mean?

Reverse printing means printing the artwork in mirror image onto clear window film.

The finished graphic can then be applied to the inside face of the window and viewed through the glass from outside. Once installed, the artwork appears the correct way round to the viewer.

It is a simple technique, but one that can open up more options when planning a window display.

Why use reverse-printed graphics on the inside of a window?

Not every window graphic needs to be fitted externally.

Applying a reverse-printed graphic to the inside of the glazing means the printed film sits behind the glass while the design remains visible from outside.

This can be useful for applications such as:

  • Retail window graphics

  • Promotional campaigns

  • Point-of-sale displays

  • Showroom windows

  • Branded glazing

It can also be useful where access to the outside of the window is less convenient, depending on the installation.

Which supacling films can be reverse printed?

Reverse-printable options are available within our clear supacling® range.

For example, supacling DURA Clear PET and supacling DOT Clear PET can both be reverse printed for graphics installed inside glazing and viewed from outside. The DURA Ultra Clear PVC option is also reverse printable.

The main difference between DURA and DOT is the way the material is installed.

DURA is designed for wet application, giving more control when positioning the graphic.

DOT is designed for dry application and uses an air-venting adhesive system to help make fitting straightforward.

The right option therefore depends not only on the finished appearance, but also on how the graphic will be printed and installed.

Check print compatibility before production

Although the clear films can be reverse printed, print compatibility varies between the PET and PVC products.

Our PET options are suitable for eco-solvent, latex, UV, lithographic and screen printing, while the PVC options are suitable for eco-solvent, latex and UV printing.

As with any print job, it is worth checking the specification of the exact material before going into production.

Want to test a reverse-printable window film?

If you already use printable window film, the easiest way to assess another material is to test it for yourself.

We offer free printed supacling sample packs so you can compare the print finish and handling against the material you currently use.

If the initial samples look suitable, we can also provide a larger sample for a more representative print and application trial.
