What is Transfer Adhesive and Why Would You Use It?

Since Anchor Magnets was founded, over 40 years ago, cutting to size, both magnetic sheet and magnetic extrusion, has been one of the cornerstones of our business.

With a wide range of adhesives to suit all applications and the largest stocks of magnetic materials in the UK, we are placed in pole position to be able to offer a solution to even the most challenging of customer requirements.

Since our inception, we have invested in some of the very best cutting and processing technology to ensure that whether you need an extruded 10mm x 1.5mm wide door gasket or 3m x 1.2 long, wide format sheet for printing, we can produce accurate extruded, slit, pressed or cut to length products in almost any configuration you can imagine.

Today, we’d like to focus on one of our more specialised products, transfer adhesive!

So, what is it?

Most of the double-sided adhesives we supply consist of a “carrier” which is sandwiched between two layers of thin adhesive. This carrier provides the strength and stability of the adhesive and can be made from a number of substrates such as paper tissue, filmic plastic and foam. A release liner is then added to one side so that the tape can be wound into a roll or bobbin without it sticking to itself.

Transfer adhesive does not contain a carrier and consists of a layer of adhesive and a liner.

So, why would you use this?

Using a Transfer adhesive (in conjunction with our state of the art cutting equipment) allows us to “kiss-cut” where we cut through the magnet and into the adhesive leaving the release liner intact. The adhesion to the magnet is greater than that to the release liner and so the individual pieces can be easily finger-lifted from the liner paper and processed by the end user. Much less fiddly than removing thousands of individually cut release liners.

These magnets can be supplied in sheets or rolled into 30m coils, dependant on the format required.

The Transfer adhesive we supply is a high-quality solvent-free, environmentally friendly tape with dispersion acrylic adhesive which is distinguished by excellent initial adhesion (tack) and which enters into the pores of materials on account of its soft consistency. Due to its high adhesive grammage, the tape perfectly suits rough surfaces and has an outstanding temperature range (-40 °C to +120 °C). It’s also resistant to ageing and UV-radiation.

So, if you are wanting high volumes of easily processed adhesive backed magnetic sheet or extrusion, then our transfer option could be the solution you are looking for.
